Where can I find the daily assignments?
You are almost there...next tab over click on - "WEEKLY SKILLS" - all lessons are archived too. Keep scrolling down and you will find older lesson plans.
What is the AR link?
https://hosted270.renlearn.com/34036
Generally the students user name is their first initial, then first four letters of their last name. The password is AR1 (case sensitive)
Will you be doing Zoom Classroom everyday?
As it stands, I plan to do Zoom Classroom on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 AM. I will leave Mondays and Fridays open for individual one-on-one Zooms for students who may need more assistance. Feel free to request a Zoom anytime!
May I help my child when they are doing the worksheets?
Absolutely! Only the assessments/quizzes should be independent. That being said, if your child begins an assessment/quiz and you can tell they are not ready, by all means, stop them. Reteach, and then let them try again. Exposure and proficiency are the most important things right now.
1. What are the blue boxes in I-Ready?
The blue boxes are all teacher assigned skills that complement the weekly lesson. Students each week work on the IPADS in class to reinforce the lesson. Due dates are in yellow at the top of each box. REMEMBER to check the drop down arrow for more lessons. The green boxes are initiated by the I-Ready team. The data collected monthly from their online assessment determines what shows up in their green boxes.
2. My child has blue boxes with over due dates - what do I do?
Most students are able to complete each lesson in class with proficiency. However, at times I-Ready data indicates they may not be proficient and must repeat the lesson. Have students complete current lesson first then go back and work on any overdue lessons. We can always find complementary skill pages to bolster any lesson in which you feel your child needs more work.
3. What paper do I use for the spelling contract?
Please use the blank pad of paper sent home, it should say second grade writing tablet paper.
4. The work seems to be a lot for my child to handle in one day. What can I do?
At anytime, by all means take a break. Given that our curriculum days are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, if your child ever needs to carry over to a Wednesday or weekend, we are okay with this. We understand each child is different and may need more flexibility during the home bound work days.
5. I can't make the Wednesday 6 PM drop off to the Rubbermaid container. What can I do?
Please contact me and we can arrange an alternative day, scan work or we can meet.
6. Do I tear the math workbook pages out to turn in on Wednesday?
Leave those pages in the book, they will need them to study for Unit 5 test. I will look at the pages when we return.
7. Do I tear out the blue practice book pages that go along with the story?
Yes, you will turn the assigned pages in on Wednesday.
8. Is the math IXL different from the Language Arts IXL the kids are used to using?
The format is the same, but as always check to make sure you are on 1st grade tabs and then you can switch back and forth with ease.
9. I find my child saying they are bored. What do I do?
Try some of these free kid friendly apps: https://www.educationalappstore.com/app/free-apps-for-kids
10. We can't log into our IXL account?
Make sure you are going to the SF log in info. It should be your child's first initial, full last name@stfrancisccs and the password is always sfcc1915.
Spelling Contracts:
Spelling contracts are activities that students will perform every Monday-Wednesday evenings. Contracts are stapled into your child's green folder on the left hand side.
Library sign up sheet for read aloud:
Library time has been changed to 9:30 AM
First Grade Mrs. Richman
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050849AFAA28A7FD0-first
PTO Meetings:
PTO meetings are held in the school cafeteria at 8:00am.
Here are the dates for upcoming PTO meetings;
April 6
May 4
Reading log sheets:
Reading log sheets will be attached in the green folders. Please log all reading activities with your child.
On Tuesdays students will be bringing home a supplemental reader from our basal story series in a baggie. Students may keep these books until the following Monday or it may be returned prior for another reader. Please log on reading log sheet how your child read the selection to you (E- for easy; Jr- for just right: or H- hard), this helps me send home the appropriate level for your reader for the following week.
AR books and Assessments:
We have a 20 minute window each day we designated as AR time and students will read silently in the classroom. At the end of the week students will test on their selected book they have chosen. This allows me to check for their understanding of the story and to determine if the student can move on to a new level. Students do have the availability to move up to more challenging levels when they have completed three books with a 100% mastery at that particular level.
Students will be checking out new AR books on Monday. These books will not come home, however I will note the book title on their reading log and the results of their AR quiz.
Assignment books:
Students will write in their planners nightly any assignments they may have for the evening. They also include important events that are occurring the next day. Please look over the assignment book nightly and sign in the date box on the far left of that day's assignments. This is also a great way to begin conversations about your child's day at school. Inquire what they have learned that day as well as recall events or happenings coming up.
Snack time:
Snack time will be observed everyday around 9:00am. Children will need to bring in their own snack. Please be cognizant that this is an early morning snack. No candy, chips, or cookies is considered a nutritional snack. We are a peanut free classroom, but not in the cafeteria. Please insure your child knows what items in their lunchbox is for snack and lunch.
On a two-hour delay we do not have snack time.
Homework:
Students in first grade normally have homework every night. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, students will be assigned to reread their story from their basal reader with an adult. The students are practicing their fluency, comprehension, and decoding of words on these homework nights. Students usually have a math homework sheet that covers the latest skill that was introduced in class that afternoon. This is a review of what was practiced during the day. Eventually, students will be working on mastering math facts for weekly assessments. Late assignments will have a 10 point deduction. This will be noted at the top of their paper.
A no name paper will have a 10 point deduction as well at the top of the paper.
Grades:
Grades are posted weekly on our new school grading system, "RenWeb." You will need to log onto your child's account and monitor their grades. If you go to the St. Francis web page, instructions are posted on the "RenWeb" link at the top. Any questions about your account please contact Mr. Eddie Swierkos.
Scholastic Book orders:
Periodically, I send home Scholastic book orders to help encourage continued reading at home. I try not to place orders close to the school's book fairs, so that we can support the librarians fund raisers. Orders can be placed online or you may fill out the order forms and return to me. Orders usually take about a week to come in. I use the points I receive to buy books for the classroom library, so that students can use them in the classroom.
More information to come with directions.
